Jasper's Final Thoughts on Peace Summit

How can peace happen when both sides hate each other? It is impossible. There can only be peace if both sides can talk to each other. If both sides knew each other better, they would be closer to peace. How can you reach peace when neither side knows each other? In Promises, both sides met and realized how much the different sides actually had in common. If the Palestinian and Israeli governments could do that too, the two sides could reach peace. Right now, the governments aren't in contact. You can't reach peace with someone that you have never even met before. Another way to reach peace is to get some way to reach a conclusion that both countries like. If they could figure out a way that made each side have an equal amount of land or rights, then that would highly accelerate the peace process. If the people in each country had the same rights, people would be happier because they would know that they are equal to the other side. If they realized that they had the same rights, then they would realize that the two sides had nothing to fight for. If you felt unequal to the other side, you would just get even more angry. Nothing would change. But if you felt equal, you would feel strong and realize that you actually didn't have to fight or be angry anymore. You would be the same, and everyone would feel happy. Peace seems really hard to the brave people that are actually fighting in the war against the other country, but if both sides realized that they were pretty similar people, then they could actually get along. From there, the two sides could reach peace.

  1. I like how you clearly identified what you thought was the problem and you gave examples of how it could be solved. I learned that the governments aren't in contact with each other, I thought they just weren't getting much done.
