Audrey's Final Thoughts on Peace Summit

According to the English 6 Orange Section class, we passed the following laws: Remove checkpoints and walls; The Palestinian refugees should be able to live wherever they want; Jerusalem should not have restrictions or checkpoints except at entrances to sacred sites like Dome of the Rock or the Western Wall; Jerusalem should be open to everyone; West Bank and Gaza should be for Palestinians, and Israelis should leave; The U.S. gives no aid to either country; and the U.S. should give humanitarian aid to both sides, not military aid. Obviously, some of these laws contradict others, but we could figure this out if we had more time.

Removing the checkpoints and walls would maybe work in Israel and Palestine, but that might cause more protesting and suicide bombings by the Palestinians for more land, and the Israelis might fire at them more.

If the Palestinian refugees would be able to live wherever they wanted, it would make the Palestinians happier and might help stop suicide bombings and protests. But it would make the Israelis more mad, and they might treat the Palestinians more harshly.

If Jerusalem didn't have restrictions or checkpoints except at entrances to sacred sites like Dome of the Rock or the Western Wall, then - as previously stated - the Israelis might start killing more Palestinians and treating them more harshly, and the Palestinians might be nicer because they have freedom, making them easier targets.

If Jerusalem was open to everyone, it would make the Palestinians happier. Like many laws that would be nice to pass, this one would make the Palestinians happy, and the Israelis mad. This is a fair law, I think, but not one the Israeli government would easily agree to.

If West Bank and Gaza were for Palestinians, and Israelis left, the Palestinians would be happy because they had their own land. The Israelis might do this, if the Palestinians promised to stop bombing.

If the U.S. gives no aid to either country, the Israelis would get super mad because the U.S. gives them lots of money now; they might even start bombing us! The Palestinians would be happy that we stopped helping the Israelis.

If the U.S. gives humanitarian aid to both sides, I think the Palestinians would be happy with that, but the Israelis would be mad we stopped giving them military aid and started helping the Palestinians.

As you can see, the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is a very hard thing to figure out, and there is no one solution now that both sides will agree to.
